TU-Automotive published an interesting white paper today on connected/autonomous vehicles and the heavy truck industry. For companies innovating in this space, this segment (the heavy vehicle side) is ripe with opportunity.
The American Trucking Associations estimates that there’s a shortage of between 35,000 and 40,000 drivers. And new drivers are entering the profession slower than older drivers are retiring.
According to TU-Automotive: “In this just-released whitepaper we explore how highly automated, and even autonomous driving, could solve this problem. Will the next generation of truckers be able to sit back and relax while their trucks drive themselves?”
