Budapest-based automotive navigation software supplier NNG LLC announced this week the opening of its North American headquarters in Birmingham.

The new office, at 320 Martin St., opened in December 2014, but celebrated its grand opening Monday.

NNG invested $100,000 into the leased 2,000 square feet of space. The office employs five with plans to hire seven more through the third quarter of this year.

NNG operates 11 offices around the world, this being the first in metro Detroit.

Jim Robnett, former director for Chrysler’s UConnect in-dash system, is leading the office as vice president of business development.

“The North American market remains a significant opportunity for NNG and will be a critical proving ground for our new technologies,” Robnett, said in a news release. “Suburban Detroit is the focal point of the automotive industry. This, coupled with the exceptional technical talent located in Southeast Michigan and the close proximity to our customers and partners, made Birmingham an ideal location for NNG’s new North American automotive offices.”

Robnett earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Michigan State University.
