OAK BROOK, IL — Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. Those are the ingredients of a Big Mac according to a TV commercial from the 1980s.
However, the special sauce was never available to the public.
On Thursday, Jan. 26, select McDonald’s locations in the United States will take part in a 10,000-bottle giveaway of the company’s special “Big Mac sauce” marking the first time the general public will have access to the final ingredient.
The giveaway is being done to promote the restaurant chain’s newest versions of the famed Big Mac, a smaller version known as the Mac Jr. and a larger version called the Grand Mac.
Four locations in Michigan will have the sauce tomorrow.
- 30807 Woodward Ave. at 13 Mile Rd. in Royal Oak starting at 1 p.m.
- 3814 Plainfield Ave. NE in Grand Rapids starting at 6:30 a.m.
- 68889 M-62 in Edwardsburg starting at 1 p.m.
- 503 N. Lincoln Rd., Escabana starting at 11 a.m.
In order to receive a bottle of the sauce, customers must tell a crew member or a designated McDonald’s representative the secret code phrase “There’s a Big Mac for that.”
You can also try to win a bottle through the company’s social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
McDonald’s announced the giveaway Tuesday in a press release and through its social media channels.
Quantities will vary per location and additional details on how customers can get a bottle are expected to be released at some point Wednesday. The bottles will be given away on a first come, first served basis.
