Campus Martius braces for Motown Winter BlastBy Michelle Muñoz, Crain's Detroit Business The Motown Winter Blast festival soon will return to Campus Martius for an eighth consecutive year. The Detroit International Bridge Co. has upped its donation to become the 2012 festival’s presenting sponsor. The amount was not disclosed. Nora Moroun, wife of Ambassador Bridge owner Manual “Matty” Moroun, said the company wants to support the city and display what Detroit has to offer. “We Detroiters are strong and we deserve to have fun,” said Moroun. Other sponsors include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Quicken Loans Inc., Greektown Casino and the General Motors Foundation. The total budget for the festival is $365,000, which will be covered through sponsorship support and revenue from festival activities. Event producer Jonathan Witz of Pontiac-based Jonathan Witz and Associates Inc. said another $40,000 is needed to bring back snow activities such as the snow slide. The 2012 festival is set to take place Feb. 10-Feb. 12. Activities include marshmallow roasting, free ice skating, three stages, three heated tents and musical acts. Information can be found at the Winter Blast website. Detroit-based Marketing Associates LLC will host a contest to design the 2012 Winter Blast logo.
