Store Among 85 Energy Star-Certified Stores Across the Country
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A Verizon Wireless Communications Store in Grand Rapids is one of 85 Verizon Wireless retail stores nationwide to be awarded the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) prestigious ENERGY STAR® certification. The store-located at 2605 E. Beltline Avenue- utilizes ENERGY STAR certified equipment, including energy efficient lighting and light-emitting diode (LED) exit signs. It also has motion sensors to activate lighting in portions of the store that are not in constant use, such as the storage rooms and back offices. Additional energy-saving initiatives include insulating water heaters and piping and properly sealing the entire building structure and entry doors to prevent the loss of heated or cooled air. EPA's ENERGY STAR Verizon Wireless has added five stores in Michigan and 26 locations nationwide to its list of ENERGY STAR-certified stores since Earth Day in 2010. The EPA ENERGY STAR energy performance rating system provides a one-to-100 point scale that helps organizations assess how efficiently their buildings use energy relative to similar buildings nationwide. Verizon Wireless ENERGY STAR-certified stores across the country are 10 percent more energy efficient on average than non-certified stores. In total, Verizon Wireless ENERGY STAR-certified stores save more than 2,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually - the equivalent to the yearly emissions from 432 passenger vehicles or from 267 homes in one year.
