Verizon Wireless Unveils New 4G Network in Detroit

On Sunday, portions of Oakland and Macomb counties will be the first to receive the new 4G LTE wireless network service from Verizon.

This includes portions of Auburn Hills, Pontiac, Rochester Hills, Troy, Waterford, Mt. Clemens, Novi, Shelby, Sterling Heights, Utica and Washington - as well as part of Milford to cover General Motors Proving Grounds.

A larger Detroit launch was delayed due to interference from a Canadian network. Once the issue is resolved, the company will expand its metro Detroit coverage area.

The initial availability of a 4G LTE wireless network in a portion of Oakland and Macomb counties is part of the companyıs major network launch in
38 major metropolitan areas by the end of the year.

In addition, the company is launching 4G LTE in more than 60 commercial airports coast to coast‹both the airports within the launch areas, plus airports in other key cities.

FOX 2's Jay Towers sat down Sunday morning with Michelle Gilbert of Verizon Wireless to learn more about the new technology.
